Living with uncertainty isn’t easy for us humans – our minds have been trained over millennia to try to control the world around us as much as we can. And we generally prefer predictability and things to remain constant. Of course, that’s not how the world is and we have also evolved to be incredibly adaptable in the face of change.
If living in a pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we need to learn to live with ambiguity, uncertainty and making it up as we go along. Luckily we have some evolved skills to help us manage – we just need some tricks to help activate them.
Here are our top three tips to help you get through if things feel a bit out of control:
- Accept that things are tough right now
- Do the little things that give you a boost (like catching up with a friend, or getting active outdoors)
- Take some time to reflect upon the good stuff you’re grateful for every day.
These tips activate processes in our mind and body that help us feel better and think better and enable us to cope and function how we need to.
